NetFS

Description

NetFS is a boot-time script used to mount or unmount Network File System (NFS), Samba (SMB/CIFS), and Netware (NCP) file systems. The script is run once at boot time to scan for network-related file system mounts: nfs, smb, cifs, or ncp types.

Service administration

To view the options available for administrating the netfs service use the service command without any options.

# service netfs
Usage: /etc/init.d/netfs {start|stop|restart|reload|status}

The chkconfig tool can be used to determine or set the levels of startup.

# /sbin/chkconfig --list netfs
netfs           0:off   1:off   2:off   3:on    4:on    5:on    6:off

The netfs script is executed only if the networking subsystem is enabled.

umount all NFS/CIFS/SMB filesystems using NetFS service

NetFS provides a simple way to unmount all networked file systems while leaving all local networking services. For example to umount all the network filesystems mounted stop the NetFS service.

# service netfs stop

To view the status of the network mount points use the below command:

# service netfs status
Configured NFS mountpoints:
/nfs_data
Active NFS mountpoints:
/nfs_data
